The CRO checklist: 77 behavioral checkpoints
Above the fold
- Does the first viewport answer in three seconds: what is it, who is it for, why now?
- Does the headline name an outcome instead of a product name?
- Is there exactly ONE visual focal point (no slider, no badge wall)?
- Is the first CTA an invitation rather than a purchase command?
- Does the LCP element load in under 2.5 s on 4G?
- Is there a proof element (number, review, press) within sight of the headline?
Product page (PDP)
- Does the strongest proof sit directly after the strongest claim?
- Does every top objection (size, effect, shipping, returns) have its own block?
- Are reviews filterable by audience attributes (size, skin type, use case)?
- Does image one show the result of using the product rather than the packaging?
- Is there a scale image (product in hand)?
- Are delivery time, returns and guarantee shown as microcopy under the buy button?
- Is there a second buy button after the proof block?
- Is a bundle anchor set (set next to single item)?
- Is the price framed in small units where useful (per portion, per day)?
- Is the variant choice curated (marked bestseller) rather than all equal?
Cart
- Does a progress bar show the distance to free shipping?
- Are cross-sells complements (accessories) rather than alternatives?
- Do cross-sell prices sit below 30 % of the main product?
- Are trust line, payment methods and returns in the cart, and nothing else clickable out?
- Does the cart persist across devices?
Checkout
- Are all costs known before checkout (no surprises in step three)?
- Is guest checkout available without forcing an account?
- Are express payments (Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay) at the top?
- Are invoice and direct debit available for German-speaking markets?
- Does browser autofill work in every field?
- Do fields validate live instead of after submit?
- Has every non-essential field been removed?
Psychology layer (every page)
- Loss aversion: is it visible what is lost without buying (state, deadline, stock)?
- Anchoring: is the first visible price a deliberately chosen one?
- Social proof: does proof sit at the point of doubt rather than in the footer?
- Zero risk: is the guarantee concrete (date, mechanism) and visible at the buy button?
- Choice: is there a marked recommendation per decision?
- Von Restorff: does exactly one element stand out per viewport?
- Fluency: does the visitor have to calculate, guess or search anywhere?
